PEER SUPPORT IN PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH
Working with parents during the perinatal period requires a special kind support. This course is designed for those who work or plan to work with parents who may have a mental health issues during the pregnancy or after the birth of the infant. This course helps the practitioner to work with and compliment the role of the health and social care practitioner or professional
AIMS OF THE COURSE
- An Awareness in antenatal and postnatal (perinatal) mental health
- Fathers’ mental health in the perinatal journey, as parents
- Cultural Awareness of parents during the perinatal period
COURSE CONTENT
- Discussion about perinatal mental health
- Exploration of the types of disorders that can affect parents
- Understanding the impact of perinatal mental health on the parents and family
- An overview Infant attachment techniques
- Management techniques and the impact of these
- Challenges which may be encountered
- Understanding limitations and knowing when to refer on
- The way forward – changing or improving practice
- Self-awareness
- Looking after ourselves
Duration
This is an 8-hour day course
We offer the training over 4 afternoons – from 3- 5pm
- Day one: 2 hours on the Awareness of Antenatal Mental Health
- Day two: 2 hours on Awareness of Postnatal Mental Health.
- Day three: 2 hours on Father’s Mental Health.
- Day four: 2 hours on Cultural Awareness in Perinatal Mental Health
