A lunchtime meeting with the Guru of breast feeding Professor Amy Brown
I have know Prof Amy a long time and watched her career blossom in Swansea University. We had a long chat about the merits of breast feeding and wellbeing. Prof Amy now runs a milk bank and service which is pretty innovative. Amy reminded me of the study which outlined the great benefits of breast feeding and that there are differences in the free amino acid levels in human mild intended for male and fast growing children. We also discussed cases of mothers who had difficulty in breast feeding caused by the incidence of tongue-tie. This appears to be a growing phenomenon and GPs report seeing more cases. We also discussed how our training is actually ‘education’ and the difference between the two. Training is for the here and now, whilst education is for a lifetime.
